Last but not least Hamburg

Our ten month European journey is coming to an end. Our last destination was Hamburg. It is the second largest city in Germany with population of over 1.7 million people. The Hamburg metropolitan area has though more than 5 million inhabitants.

Hamburg is situated on the river Elbe and it is an important transport hub, being the 2nd largest port in Europe. It has also become a media and industrial centre.

Hamburg’s official name (Freie und Hansestadt Hamburg) reflects its history as a member of the medieval Hanseatic League, as a free imperial city of the Holy Roman Empire, a city-state, and one of the 16 states of Germany.

Although our visit to Hamburg was short, only 3 days, I can say I like the city and wish to come back soon for a little longer stay.
